Diving at the Galapagos Islands and going back in time

The Galapagos Islands are truly a wonder of nature. This is the place where Charles Darwin formed his ideas for his famous book 'The origin of Species'. Life here was unspoiled and untouched, which was one of the reasons that made it possible for Darwin to find out about the relations between us and our ancestors.

Although there are dive courses, diving here is not exactly for the beginners. It is a region for more experienced divers because of depth and strong currents. Most dives are done as drift dives, but still currents are hard to predict and you might end up far away from the boat. Just stay relaxed and wait until the boat will coma and pick you up.

February to April is the time with the warmest water, but be careful for the cold thermocline between 10 and 30 meters, which can make temperature drop to 10 degrees Celsius. With more than 20 meters, the visibility is good. The wildlife is spectacular, with possibilities of diving with large animals such as sea lions, whales and dolphins, but there is also many fish, invertebrates and coral.
